Full Speed - Janet Evanovich (CD)
Title: R is for Ricochet Title: Full Speed Author: Janet Evanovich Genre: Mystery & Detective / General Format: CD, 6 CDs., 7 hrs. 30 min. Synopsis: A novel brimming with nonstop action, quirky characters, sexy highjinks, and sharp humor Welcome to Full Speed. Youll fall in love with Jamie Swift and Max Holt, one dynamic duo who cant seem to escape troubleand an irresistible attractionas you follow them from one adventure to another. Newspaper editor Jamie Swift likes a little predictability in her life. When she suddenly finds herself minus a fianceacute; and with a major case of the hots for her silent partner, millionaire Maximillian Holt, any bit of predictability goes right out the window. Max is like a tornado, turning her well-ordered world upside down. Now someones unhappy with Maxs recent business dealdangerously unhappy. Before she knows it, Jamies hotfooting across state lines to help Max and land a story. But Sweet Pea, Tennessee harbors some smelly secrets, many of which reside under the big tent of revivalist Harlan Rawlins, whose link to the Almighty rides shotgun with his Mob connections. Posing as husband and wife, with computer genius Muffin and a mutt named Fleas along for the ride, Max and Jamie are in the middle of another crazy case, closer than ever to each otherand too close for comfort to the kind of people who will do anything to stop them Review: Library Journal (April 1, 2004; 1-55927-930-3) In this sequel to Full Tilt, Jamie Swift is on the run from Beaumont, SC, and her job as a newspaper editor and reporter. Millionaire Max Holt owns the newspaper and follows Jamie to Sweetpea, TN. Jamie and Max pose as a married couple to track down the criminal who has threatened Max; a talking computer named Muffin and a dog named Fleas accompany them. Jamie pretends to be a sex addict to trick an evangelist into giving her information, and Max has ample opportunity to use his skills with technology. This series lacks creativity and humor and is quite inferior to Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. There don't seem to be any sparks between Max and Jamie, though there are many implausible characters and situations. Lorelei King, the narrator for both recordings, reads competently and with enthusiasm. The BBC version has sturdy library packaging; the Audio Renaissance tapes will need to be repackaged for heavy use. Public libraries should buy where demand warrants.-Mary Knapp, Madison P.L., WI Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
